About Kristi Abbott
Abbott is a collage and mixed media artist who was born and raised in Sydney, Australia. Abbott’s approach to art is “intelligent”, thoughtful, creative, quirky and fresh. She breaks paradigms and is not afraid to step out of the mainstream think tank of traditional art. Each piece of art is made up of hidden imagery that has been overprinted on exotic papers. Abbott’s work rose to notoriety when she was chosen as the featured artist for Edina Art Show in 2015. Following the success of her first show, she was selected as the featured artist for Duluth Art on the Bay and awarded a commission. In 2016 Abbott developed her Pop Icon Series that included stars such as David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Bill Murray and Prince. The success of the Icon Series helped to increase awareness of her work and sales continued to grow. In December of 2016, Abbott signed a book deal with a New York publisher, Henry Holt and Co. The non-fiction book “DIG IF YOU WILL THE PICTURE” by Ben Greenman will be released in April of 2017 and will feature an image of Prince on the front cover from her Pop Icon Series.
Abbott studied at SW Texas University for a year and completed her BA in Design at the College of Fine Arts in Sydney, Australia. She also has an MBA from the University of NSW, Australia. Before she decided to become a full time artist, Abbott was the CEO of an online simulation based consulting company.
