The Embassy of Australia in Washington DC planned a special
focus on Australian War Brides as part of their commemorations
for ANZAC Day in 2007.
This was an important opportunity for the Australian Embassy to
recognize the many War Brides in the United States and to pay
tribute to them as a unique group on this national day of
commemoration.
Australian World War II War Brides and their families were
invited by the
Australian Embassy to join them in Washington DC on April 25.
Functions included a Dawn Service at the Korean War Memorial, a
"Gunfire" breakfast, and a service at the National Cathedral.
Australia’s Ambassador to the United States, Dennis Richardson,
hosted a reception for War Brides and their families.
95 War Brides and their families attended these various events
and had the opportunity to share memories, celebrating their
unique experiences while taking part in ANZAC Day
commemorations.
